Route optimisation options
Prior to setting your route, the application prompts you to select options to optimise your route calculation. The application computes 7 different combinations of options:
- By car, avoid traffic and use toll roads.
- By car, avoid traffic and avoid toll roads.
- By car, ignore traffic and use toll roads.
- By car, ignore traffic and avoid toll roads.
- By car, shortest route and use toll roads
- By car, shortest route and avoid toll roads.
- Pedestrian
Should several combinations of options result in the same route - same itinerary, same distance, same travel time - a single one is displayed under a simplified, explicit name. For instance, should the options "Avoid traffic", "Ignore traffic", and "Shortest" result in the same travel time and the same distance, then the merged option is displayed as By car;
should the options "avoid traffic" and "ignore traffic" result in the same route, the merged option is displayed as Fastest.
Options are defined as follows:
- Avoid traffic congestion: the route is optimized according to current traffic conditions (providing that traffic information is available). This route avoids identified traffic jams. The estimated time of arrival or the estimated travel time is calculated according to traffic conditions.
- Ignore traffic information: the route is not optimized according to traffic conditions. However, the estimated time of arrival or the estimated travel time takes into account known traffic conditions.
- Use toll roads: routing makes use of toll roads if the result is faster.
- Avoid toll roads: routing avoids toll roads.
- Shortest: the route is optimized so that the distance by car between departure and destination is the shortest distance (obeying road restrictions). The estimated time of arrival or the estimated travel time is calculated according to traffic conditions.
- Pedestrian: provides the best route for pedestrians, taking into account information about pedestrian-only streets, one-way streets, and streets forbidden to pedestrians.
